Will 50cal uppers be banned?
Do you guys think there will be a ban on the uppers? I'm debating on grabbing a ferret50 lower and get the upper later down the road.
I sure would like to have a 50 and then have my team use the AK platform for support fire... should the NEED arise. |
Re: Will 50cal uppers be banned?
I don't think the 'uppers' will be banned - just the completed rifles (primarily the semi-autos).
I'm in the same boat and would luv to get my hands on a 50-cal with AK, FAL, and 8mm Rifle support fire........if the need, etc, etc. |

It's definitely a very long range and anti-vehicle weapon. Not to mention hitting targets behind walls and barriers. |
Re: Will 50cal uppers be banned?
Not all 50 caliber rifles but 50 BMG is banned in the PRC and as it seems if a federal AWB would take on some parts of the California AWB it will take on all of the aspects of it.
Hence YES 50 BMG and all other 50 calibers will be banned. If you have any fantasy about getting one of the 50BMG uppers get it now while you can. Getting it later will be either more expensive, illegal or both. |

That's THE whole problem right now. I'm trying to purchase guns now that will most likely get banned - yet without the threat I'd wait a few years. It really sux, because if you've been dreaming that 'someday' I'll buy.........well, TIME IS UP BUDDY ! Someday is either now or NEVER. :banghead: Obama is FORCING citizens to arm up via Fear. Thanks, -O  |
Re: Will 50cal uppers be banned?
I know what you mean.
I have been buying and selling Colt 1911's for the last 10-15 years or so but never bought one for myself. Always a Sig or a HK or a FN. I recently found a pre ban Colt 1911 Officers ACP in brushed stainless steel. I bought it on the spot. Next is another Sig Sauer P229 in 40SW/357 Sig.. I think this makes 4 of those now. Quote:
Oh and the AR57 That's on its way from Washington State. BTW who else wants one of these ? I know a place that gets stock on a regular basis. Check the gun boards to learn about this item. It fires the 5.7 x 28 round like the P90, PS90 and the FN 5.7 pistol. http://www.57center.com/ http://www.57center.com/uploaded/ima...r_final_04.jpg Quote:

Re: Will 50cal uppers be banned?
I'd say there is a pretty good chance that 50 BMG is on the list yes?
Go with the Safety Harbor upper instead of the Ferret. |
Re: Will 50cal uppers be banned?
Thanks TAD now the quest is finding a few cases of ammo on the cheap.
Beyond the already needed 223 and 308. |
Re: Will 50cal uppers be banned?
The laws I've been seeing them try to pass in my state they want to ban 50 cals but they have the added touch of no grandfather clause- which means when they make it illegal it will be illegal not only to buy them from that point on but it will even go after people who currently own them. Yep got Nazis in my state.

a example would be all of the Calico Firearms models. but those sure look like intresting uppers to say the least |
Re: Will 50cal uppers be banned?
Maybe he means in a AR platform, or were there others in the past using the AR base to build from ?
And I always thought I wanted a Gas Piston AR. It would be awesome if they could use this idea with the 223 round. Also somewhat like the Calico but not in a pistol round. From what I have seen with the AR57 they took the magazine and built around it. Ill be sure to give a range report after Ive put it through its paces. I expect to have it in my hands by the end of next week. I feel like a kid in a candy / gun store. Quote:

Re: Will 50cal uppers be banned?
one prob with the AR57 is if you mount a scope then mag changes could be a big problem. I've yet to see a pic of one with a scope. got any?

Re: Will 50cal uppers be banned?
With the AR57 a reloader could take the spring and follower out of an old AR mag, cut the feed lips off the mag body with a dremel tool, and use the modified mag body as a brass catcher.

Re: Will 50cal uppers be banned?
An honest question...
Why would anyone want a AR57? It seems to me all you're getting is low/no recoil and bigger capacity, but you're giving up cheap/available ammo, and a whole pile of power. All out of the same rifle. Neither the cartridge or platform do anything for me. |
